Introduction Richard Langridge is an experienced programme practitioner and lecturer with a wide experience of both commissioning and producing across adult and children’s programming in Australia, Malaysia and the U.K. He is a creative manager who has worked as a Head of Department and Executive Producer for British broadcasters such as ITV and the BBC as well as a number of leading British independents, and has occupied managerial , scheduling and commissioning roles. His work has ranged from being Head of BBC’s Children’s Drama Department to setting up his own company in Australia, creating entertainment formats for Endemol, and even devising Islamic content for Muslim Lifestyle channels. He has been a guest lecturer for the University of Sydney, Oxford University Film School, Scottish Screen, and the Royal Television Society and, before becoming a producer, taught for two years in Libya and Italy. Altogether, he has over eighteen years in television production, is credited on over seventy dramas and twenty documentaries, and has worked on everything from feature films, large scale, shiny floor entertainment shows to children’s musicals. His produced programmes have won four British BAFTAS, six RTS awards and an Australian Film Institute Award and his feature film Hard Times was premiered at the Director’s Guild, Hollywood. In 2004 Richard was awarded a Distinguished Talent Visa by the Australian Government and now lives in Kuala Lumpur and Melbourne. Richard has a B.A. Honours degree, a post-graduate media diploma from U.C.C Cardiff, and worked as a teacher in Libya and Italy. Richard married in 1995 and has a nine year old son, Leo. He is a member of the British Academy (BAFTA) and the Royal Television Society, and in 2005 won a RTS Award for Best Chairman. His hobbies include writing (his stage play THE ACT was broadcast on BBC2 and toured the UK, Israel and Germany) and politics (he stood for the British Parliament as a Liberal candidate in the 1983 General Election and gained 11,444 votes in the constituency of Pontypridd, Wales). ![]() |
